Overview
Family Medicine
Family medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on providing comprehensive healthcare for individuals and families, across all ages and genders. Family physicians are trained to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of medical conditions, from common illnesses to complex chronic diseases. They provide both preventive and therapeutic care, and work to improve the overall health and well-being of their patients. They provide a continuity of care, meaning they know the family’s health history and patient’s current issues, and able to provide long-term management of health problems and preventative measures. They take care of most of the health issues for the whole family, from pediatrics to geriatrics. They often serve as the primary healthcare provider and help to coordinate care with other specialists when necessary.
